Here's My Sign...

On Sunday JC and I heard a sermon on our identity in Christ that has since challenged me to think differently about who I am in the Lord.

We were challenged to think of our selves as God- Willed Ambassadors who are citizens of Heaven and called to take the Church into the world.

It gave me a whole new outlook on my life, my career and my purpose in this life… I am called to be an ambassador – a representative for Christ in ALL I do. In my personal life, my work life and everything else in between.

2 Corinthians 5:16-21 - So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

No matter what our past looks like…. And no matter what stumbles we might have in our future… our identity is in CHRIST and nothing can change this. His perfect blood has made our purpose clear… our life is his… we are his ambassadors… his messengers… we are HIS!

The world does not know the value of the Cross…but as Christians we do… because it is what has changed our life forever. God has commissioned us to be his ambassadors – to spread the message of the cross – this is our highest priority as a Christian.

At the end of the sermon Rick challenged us to think about what the sign of our life in Christ would say… members of the church began filing onto the stage with cardboard signs with their identity in Christ. The front of the cardboard sign described their life before Christ and then as they flipped the sign over they reviled their new identity in Christ… it was an amazing representation of what CHRIST has done in their lives, in our lives and in the world!

Here are some of the touching stories that were shared with us on these cardboard signs
-Slave to Islam… Freedom in Christ
-Consumed by Atheism … Filled with the Holy Spirit
-Diagnosed with terminal cancer… living with Christ
-Lusted after men… Jesus is the only man I need
-Homeless and hungry… God is my provider
-Lost in porn… Found in Christ

Who did you use to be? And how has Christ changed your life?

Here is my sign…
-Sought approval from the material world … found my citizenship in Christ.

What would your sign say?

thanks, dabs for such a great post. i think sometimes the biggest thing holding me back from being a true ambassador for Christ is my fear of failure. so here's my sign:

Afraid to Fall...Picked up by Christ
