The God of Now.

Today JC & I took a HUGE step... we placed membership at Richland Hills Church of Christ! We have been attending this church since we got married and finally had the courage to take the step to get involved. We walked out of the church building this morning feeling full, inspired, excited, and relieved that we finally did it! I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for us at this church. It is truly a church who "gets it" and you can see that in EVERYTHING they do.

This morning we heard a touching sermon that is part of a series title "American Idols". It has been a thought provoking series about the many "gods" we serve. Today was about the God of NOW.

Too many times we get caught up in instant gratification... I want it NOW! But the Lord we serve says he is good to those who wait upon him. The lesson of patience is everywhere in the Bible. Its one of those lessons thats hard to get...

Waiting builds character, trust and the most intimate relationship with our creator. The lesson in the wait is usually greater that what we are actually waiting for. The Lord knows what he is doing and loves to see his children grow and learn and "get it".

Here is a link to the sermon we heard on Sunday. If you get a chance today to put your earphones in while at work, or to take 20 mins out of your evening routine I promise you that you will be blessed by this message. http://www.rhchurch.org/sermons/ (American Idol's #5)

The closing song we sang was a song from the movie Fireproof that is out in theaters right now. I have not seen the movie (and don't think I will) but this song moved me...and continues to move me as I listen to it on repeat while writing this post.

I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience

While I’m waiting
I will serve You
While I’m waiting
I will worship
While I’m waiting
I will not faint
I’ll be running the race
Even while I wait

I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait

I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You, Lord

We have all gone through seasons of waiting in our life... and some of us might be there right now. Waiting on a job, waiting on finances to work out, waiting on relationships to get better, waiting to become a mom, waiting to move, waiting for someone's health to improve, waiting... waiting... waiting...

Today I made this song, this sermon, and these verses my prayer for patience and courage to keep running the race... even while I wait.

Isaiah 30:18
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you;
he rises to show you compassion.
For the LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!

Lamentations 3:24
I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

Wow Dabney What a great post! Did you make it before or after I sent you the note. I have no idea what new job God has in store, but he has sure taught me how to be more patient. You and JC are such a great example to me and others as it shows in each of your lives and even in what you write on your blog!
